The topic of parent expectations amongst Asian migrant families has been in the news a whole lot lately. From Amy Chua’s book Battle Hymn from the Tiger Mother, to research showing that father and mother place a great importance in children’s educational achievement. These increased academic expectations are often seated in the opinion that one’s socioeconomic status and the volume of effort in education is usually an indication of how well parents include raised youngsters (Chao & Tseng, 2002).

Another factor is a strong emphasis on family cable connections for the wellbeing of individuals. In traditional Asian American family designs, extended families are common and two or three years can live together inside the same home. Generally, important decision-making certainly is the purview within the father and elder daughters are expected to keep responsibilities intended for the younger members of the family.
